Citizenship Classes
Provided by: Jewish Family Service This HIAS-endorsed program prepares new Americans for the written citizenship exam and INS interview required for naturalization. Assistance with document completion, fingerprinting and photographs for the INS is available.
New American Acculturation
Provided by: Jewish Community Center An extensive program of services is designed especially for older adult immigrants. Located at the Jimmy Prentis Morris Building on the A. Alfred Taubman Jewish Community Campus in Oak Park, the program includes a bilingual translator and a full array of social, cultural, physical fitness and educational activities. A major emphasis is placed on programming with Jewish content as well as celebrations. Assistance is provided with learning about and accessing community and governmental services and benefits. Space is provided for English as a second language and citizenship classes.
New American Services
Provided by: Jewish Apartments and Services Services are available for New Americans living in the Jewish Apartments & Services buildings in Oak Park. In conjunction with Jewish Family Service, citizenship classes are offered. JAS employs bilingual translators and social workers that assist with adjustment issues, everyday translation needs and obtaining community resources and government entitlements.
