Jewish Home and Aging Services (JHAS) works to enhance the quality of life of frail older adults through a wide range of programs in an environment that emphasizes and respects traditional Jewish values. In keeping with the promise of caring for older and frail adults in our community, JHAS provides residences, licensed assisted living and nursing care, adult day care for the memory impaired, family respite and support, guardianship and chaplaincy services.
ElderLink programs provided by Jewish Home and Aging Services:
- Chaplaincy Program
- The Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program provides and coordinates religious and cultural programming, support, pastoral care, spiritual guidance and advocacy for Jewish residents in secular skilled nursing and assisted living facilities.
- Dorothy and Peter Brown Jewish Community Adult Day Care Program
- This is a special day program for older adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia disorders. Participants benefit from a program of therapeutic activities designed to maximize remaining abilities and provide socialization and stimulation. The caregivers receive much needed respite in order to enable them to keep their loved ones at home. In addition, the program provides specialized support services for caregivers of older adults with dementia disorders. Transportation is available. The program has two sites, JVS in Southfield and Jewish Home & Aging Services in West Bloomfield. The two sites are jointly operated.
- Dorothy and Peter D. Brown Memory Care Pavilion at Fleischman Residence
- The Brown Memory Care Pavilion provides a safe, secure and supportive environment specifically designed and staffed to accommodate the distinctive needs of older adults with memory impairments. This residential unit, located on the third floor of the Fleischman Residence/ Blumberg Plaza, provides residents with around-the-clock nursing, recreational, and social supports. Programs are created to enhance functioning and enrich life through professionally planned activities. A full complement of programs and activities are offered to encourage resident socialization, stimulation, autonomy and self-expression.
- Fleischman Residence/ Blumberg Plaza (West Bloomfield)
- A licensed home for the aged, Fleischman Residence provides a secure home environment for frail Jewish older adults. Three kosher meals are provided daily in addition to health services, personal care assistance, recreational activities, fitness, cultural and religious supports and programming to enrich the residents’ quality of life.
- Guardianship Services
- Guardianship services are provided for frail older adults who are in need of a legal guardian. As a court-appointed legal guardian of the person and/or property, Jewish Home and Aging Services ensures that all supports and services are in place to enhance the client’s quality of life.
- Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program
- The Chaplaincy Program provides training for those who are willing to serve as parachaplains to Jewish residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
- Jewish Home and Aging Services Volunteer Corps
- JHAS has a strong volunteer corps, which provides many opportunities for those interested in working with frail Jewish older adults.
The Guardianship Program has opportunities for volunteers to work with and advocate for guardianship clients. Responsibilities include friendly visiting and helping to monitor clients’ well-being.
- Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network
- The Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network offers opportunities for volunteers who are able to work with and bring comfort to patients with terminal illness and their families.
- Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network
- This program, working in cooperation with Federation, provides pastoral care, spiritual guidance, advocacy and emergency rabbinical intervention to patients and families facing terminal illness, infirmity or personal crisis.
- Program for Holocaust Survivors and Families
- The Program for Holocaust Survivors and Families is a multi-faceted program developed to meet the psychosocial and emotional needs of aging Jewish Holocaust survivors and their families. Services include psychological support and special cultural programming.
- The Club in the Plaza
- This older adult day program offers recreational, religious, cultural, educational and social activities. It is open to members of the community who could benefit from a structured program and whose families could use some respite from care giving responsibilities. A kosher lunch and snacks are provided. Door-to-door transportation is available.
