Building healthy families, JFS provides social services, healthcare management, crisis intervention, behavioral health counseling, immigration support and resettlement services to individuals and families in the metro Detroit area. A beneficiary agency of both Federation and United Way, JFS serves people regardless of race, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
ElderLink programs provided by Jewish Family Service:
- Citizenship Classes
- This HIAS-endorsed program prepares new Americans for the written citizenship exam and INS interview required for naturalization. Assistance with document completion, fingerprinting and photographs for the INS is available.
- Elder Support Network
- JFS is a member of this network, which can connect families and caregivers to older adult services throughout the country.
- Emergency Assistance
- JFS provides emergency funds for food, shelter and medical care.
- Home Share Program
- This is an intergenerational program in which Jewish Family Service matches a home provider seeking to share his/her home for support, social and/or economic reasons with a home seeker who is looking for an affordable place to live. A contractual arrangement is made between the two parties.
- Housing Relocation
- Social workers provide assistance with finding appropriate housing for older adults in need of alternative living arrangements
- Jewish Family Service - Social Work Services
- Jewish Family Service provides the following social work services to assist older adults and their families:
Assessment Planning Case Management and Counseling Services Care Connection This program offers a coordinated plan of services and care management for older adults who require some form of assistance to manage their daily living. A customized care plan is developed for each client.
- Jewish Family Service Home and Respite Care Services
- In-home support services are designed to enable older adults to remain independent and in their homes. These include personal care and bathing, housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, shopping, escort and companion services.
- Jewish Family Services - Transportation
- Through the Interagency Transportation Network coordinated by Jewish Family Service, escorted transportation services are available for older adults to medical appointments and to other destinations as availability and time allow.
- Jewish Family Services Volunteer Opportunities
- JFS has opportunities for volunteers to do friendly visits, to assist with grocery and other shopping and to serve as escorts. Volunteers are needed to provide help with minor home repairs. There are also a variety of volunteer opportunities within the agency and with non-elderly clients.
- Kadima Plus
- Support services are provided to enable the most vulnerable, mentally ill elderly to live in community-based housing.

- Kosher Meals on Wheels
- In conjunction with the National Council of Jewish Women, Jewish Family Service coordinates kosher home-delivered meals for homebound older adults who have difficulty with meal preparation and could benefit from nutritional assistance.
- LifeLine
- This 24-hour emergency response system can be arranged through Jewish Family Service in conjunction with the American Red Cross.

- Minor Home Repairs
- Volunteers assist on a limited basis with minor home repairs, such as changing light bulbs, fixing screens, simple plumbing and electrical work. The cost of any required materials is the responsibility of the older adult.
- Phone Friends
- A phone reassurance program for adults who could benefit from regular phone contact from a volunteer.
- Psychiatric Intervention and Care
- This service is available for adults who are suffering from depression, anxiety or other disorders, which can be treated with medication. In addition, Jewish Apartments & Services, Jewish Home and Aging Services and JVS provide social work services for their residents and clients.
- Support Services
- JFS provides in-home support, transportation, case management, and indemnification services for Holocaust survivors.
